Nostalgia & History > Where Was Roger Puta?Date: 12/03/16 14:12 Where Was Roger Puta? Author: MartyBernard I am working on one of his Santa Fe groupings he called "Heralds & Signs." I need location help on three.
1. ATSF KEOTA sign in April 1972. What state? If it is a railrosd name, what town is nearby? 2. The letters say "Santa Fe Division Offices". Photo taken in March 1972. Where? 3. ATSF Train Board in December 1971. Where? 4. ATSF in November 1985. Where? Thanks for the help, Marty Bernard Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/03/16 14:15 by MartyBernard. Marty Date: 12/03/16 14:48 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: Railpax71 Belen, New Mexico on the San Francisco Chief schedule.
Date: 12/03/16 14:54 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: dt66200 Picture #2 In 1957, the hotel closed to the public. The museum-quality furnishings were auctioned off in 1959. In the early 1960s, much of the building was gutted and transformed into offices for the Santa Fe Railway. Several times over the ensuing 40 years, the building was nearly demolished, as recently as 1994 when the railway announced its plans to move out for good.
Date: 12/03/16 14:55 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: The_Chief_Way Regarding photo No.2, LaPosada was closed as a hotel for many years and only used by the railroad as offices until the current owner
came in and revived it. Date: 12/03/16 15:00 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: The_Chief_Way The "timetable" for the San Fran Chief.based on the times marked up, is at Bakersfield Calif.
No guesswork here. Date: 12/03/16 16:23 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: Railpax71 oops. ChiefWay I inverted AM and PM when I glanced at the timetable. Those are the Bakersfield, California times for the San Francisco Chief. Thanks for the correction.
What was the 2:45 train blacked out? Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/03/16 16:33 by Railpax71. Date: 12/03/16 18:34 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: The_Chief_Way The irony of it is that in Dec.1971, the date given by Marty, there were NO scheduled trains at Bakersfield.
ATSF No.1 and 2 died with the coming of Amtrak. They were the last two trains thru Bakersfield. Date: 12/03/16 18:41 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: Evan_Werkema #4 is a detail on the south side of the freight depot at Ash Fork, AZ, probably photographed on the same trip as this shot of the whole structure:
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4096251 If Puta happened to take a good photo of the whole Santa Fe depot at Bakersfield, CA the same day he shot the schedule board, or even on a different day, please post it. I've seen very few good photos of it, and never one showing the west end or the north side. Date: 12/03/16 20:12 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? I believe this is/was a multi-use structure including the station. Date: 12/03/16 22:03 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: rdlehmer Wouldn't it be in California or Arizona with "Pacific Standard Time"?

Did ATSF run predecessors to today's San Joaquin service at one time? If so, were they discontinued before 5/1/71? One of those might have been the "blacked out" train on the Bakersfield sign. Date: 12/03/16 22:33 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: dave_potter Golden Gate I believe was its name. I do not know when it was discontinued. I rode it in the mid 50s with a bus connection to LA from Bakersfield

Norm Norman Orfall Helendale, CA TIOGA PASS, a private railcar Date: 12/03/16 23:28 Re: Where Was Roger Puta? Author: Evan_Werkema Westbound Golden Gate Tr.63 departed Bakersfield, CA at 2:45 pm as of the October 1961 Passenger Time Table. Evidently that's the last time the schedule board got a full repaint, as the Spring/Summer 1959 table had Tr.63 departing at 2:30 pm, and the Spring/Summer 1963 table had it departing at 1:45 pm. There were originally four Golden Gate trains, Tr.60-63, but Tr.61 came off in 1958. The other three made their last runs in 1965.
Bakersfield was also served by the westbound Fast Mail Express Tr.7 in 1961, and that may the the blacked-out train on the third westbound line of the board. |
