Four Santa Fe Need Caption Help
Author: MartyBernard

These are Roger Puta's.

1. AT&SF A.U. JCT in August 1983.  Where and junction of what?

2. AT&SF something somewhere in October 1985.  The sign "Motel Taxi" must be reserving a spot for the Taxi to take crews back and forth from a Motel.  The other two signs say, "Signal Dept. Personnel Only".

3. AT&SF MERRICK, TX in August 1983.  A tower with a big roof over hang to keep out the sun?  Texas?  Was it operational?

4. AT&SF NR-JCT in August 1983.  Where and junction of what?

Thanks for the help,e
Marty Bernard

There is a Merrick just west of Emporia, KS, and an NR Jct just east of Emporia.
There is an AU Jct just north of Muskogee, OK.

Probably taken on the same trip where he shot the double cantilevers at Earlton, KS.  AU Jct. was in Chanute, KS where the lines to Joplin, MO and Wellington, KS diverged from the line to Tulsa (yes, it's more complicated than that, but that's one snapshot in time).

Street side of the Clovis, NM freight depot.

Merrick Tower was a bit west of Emporia, KS.  It closed decades before Puta shot it, but remained standing until 2006 because it had signal equipment on the ground floor.

NR Junction was a bit east of Emporia, KS, junction between the lines to Topeka and Kansas City.

Merrick tower sat about 600' east of the I-35 overpass, just west of Emporia. You can still see the parking lot where it stood, on the north side of the tracks. The "electric lead" came off yard track there on the south side, and they could yard eastbound trains into the yard there.
