Nice. I rode that under VIA. What were the facilities for the lunch stop?

Rub it in!

On the Malahat Dayliner it was a catering truck in Parksville.

Now, if you were REALLY tough in the big city, you would have ridden the CN mixed train that ran from Halifax to Yarmouth!

Station Lunch Counter. Conductor would announce a 10 to 15 min stop there and time to get a coffee and sandwich.

How'd I miss this fabulous post?  Oh, the one that got away.  In 1977, I was on a long, trans Canada train trip that started in Vancouver, hit both Sydney and Halifax before turning back west.  Although I saw the DAR and even went out to Kentville to look around, I never took the time, and I had the time to spend, to ride the DAR to Yarmouth.  Yeah, one of my life's great railfan/train riding regrets.

Great pair of photos!

Thanks Lee!

I was in Kentville last week. The old DAR track is still in place from just east of there to the Windsor Jct but hasn't seen a train in several years. West of Kentville......a nice cross country ski trail!

Gary, in my 2003 trip back there, I went to the very end of the old DAR track between New Minas and Kentville.  And the dead track is still there, eh?  I need to scan a bunch of my 1977 trip back there.
