I'll offer some adapted song lyrics from a 1971 tune that I'm sure "IC1038west" & rathole" and any other pre-1975 H.S. grad should remember. For all you younger types: your mileage may vary...

adapted lyric line: "I'm sittin' uptown in a railway yard, one toe over the line..."
actual lyric line: "I'm sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line..."

Amazingly, the current Google Earth pass of Goodland, Kansas shows that plow to still be there!  It is pushed back some, and the turntable pit is mostly filled in now.  I don't know when the Google pass was taken.

In the 1983 shot above, notice the jack just in front of the rear truck and the shiny new truck springs, looks like a field repair underway.  I bet, in order to lift the back of the carbody without the plow hitting the ground, they had to push the tip of the plow out over the pit to gain ground clearance for the pivot.

Had a co-worker fail a drug test for pot in his system and that line was mentioned numerous times!

"Waitin' for the train that goes home, sweet Mary -- hopin' that the train is on time.....sittin' downtown in a railway station.....etc."

Is this not the plow that the Kyle derailed several years back and then had it cut up later at the derail site?

I finally figured it out, that plow doesn't have a reverse gear.

What does that lettering on the side say?  "Do Not...Jump?" ;^)

Unless that scenario played out more than once on the Kyle, the plow you're thinking of was an ex-ATSF plow built out of an old flatcar, not an ex-Rock Island plow built out of an old tender:

I'd agree with both Rick and Evan here.

Rick/Loaf of Bread RI Plow:  Not sure what the incident was to damage the plow at the TT pit but appears heat was applied to the vertical shear wedges to some degree and a new plate of sheet metal on the horizontal elevating surface was applied below the draft gear pocket.  Also looking at the top surface above the wedges there was some damage there as well as the headlight is missing.  Some new hinges have been applied to the doors leading to the front truck's journal boxes.

Evan/Kyle ex-AT&SF:  As for the Kyle accident, it was one of the typical AT&SF plows that had the plow portion hinged from the end of a flatcar with large turnbuckles positioning at the proper height above the rails.  The rest of the car had a boxed area of ballast for weight.  As for weight on the Rock Island plow under repair, it was most likely filled with scrap concrete pieces for weight.  I saw this on a similar plow in the late 60's.
