My Favorite spot in Mojave
Author: lamta_jay

First I must apologize for the lousy quality of these
images but these are the best I could do with them.
These were on negative film and not the best quality.

On my drives from Bakersfield to work in Newhall I
used to stop here at this grade crossing just north of the
58/14 split just to take a break especially if I saw a head
light coming my way. Most of the time the light really was
not the best but here are 3 of my favorites all taken in 1998.

!.....UP intermodal with C&NW-UP-UP-SP for power
2.....SP manifest with a GP60 leading
3.....Santa Fe (BNSF) with SD75 # 8255 leading 2 SD40-2's
and a GE B unit.

Just a small look back to a spot I like to remember
Thanks for looking

Jay

My favorite spot was usually Carl's Jr because I was starved by the time I got there!

I know the spot very well. I used to live in the housing area just west of the tracks. Spent a lot of time there in my younger years.

I still live in that "housing tract" west of the rails on H St. in an old SP house that was originally just north (railroad west) of the Oak Creek Crossing, and used to hang out with SP Herder Al Sliva in his shack watching trains back in the '50s as a teenager.
I also had something to do with getting that overpass built and getting the photo ports installed in the fence.

I hung out at Mojave yard a lot myself, but on the Lone Pine or Blitz locals. More fun than jut watching.

Blitz might have been the train with the highest average velocity on the SP, they were hell
between switches.
