including a sleeper-lounge that served light meals and beverages. Date: 01/16/17 20:48 Re: F 3-pack: AMrail, B&M (McGinnis scheme), CP (old scheme) Author: railwaybaron What kind of car from which railroad supplied food service on the Ambassodor?

In the early '60's when the photo was taken the Ambassador typically ran with an RPO and 1-3 coaches supplied by the NH or CN. B&M had sold off their non-RDC passenger equipment by that time. The Montrealer/Washingtonian usually ran with similar coaches. After the New Haven discontinued the State of Maine in 1960, the Montrealer got NH "State" series 5BR-buffet lounges to provide food service. Sleepers where 6-4-6's from the NH, CN and occasionally B&M, plus a NH 14-4. First, it was CN #6506. Second, it was VIA #6506 when it was painted as in the posted photo for the Superman II movie. Third, it was acquired by Algoma Central and was renumbered #1751. Presently, it is owned by the Keokuk Junction Railway and is stored still in Algoma Central paint and number at LaHarpe, IL. ALLEN Date: 01/17/17 23:38 Re: F 3-pack: AMrail, B&M (McGinnis scheme), CP (old scheme) Author: eminence_grise I recall seeing that RPO, or one very similar heading to a scrap yard in Montreal.
Someone pointed out that it was rare because of the dual lettering, US Post Office and Canadian Post Office. I think dual lettered RPO's also operated between Toronto and Chicago. Someone may confirm that the RPO cancellations would reflect the territory worked by the respective post office employees. |
