I wonder what this spot looks like now. Thank you -- B Date: 01/18/17 21:55 Re: SP Alco Century 701 just south of San Jose mid-1967 Author: zephyrus Very cool.
That location is about 1 mile from my Aunt's house and about 2 miles from where I grew up. Poked around that cut many times. Z Date: 01/18/17 22:48 Re: SP Alco Century 701 just south of San Jose mid-1967 Author: Fizzboy7 Crazy consist, just great! Almost thought it was Slover for a moment.

Was this cut once a tunnel?? Date: 01/19/17 06:46 Re: SP Alco Century 701 just south of San Jose mid-1967 Author: mdo coach Wrote:

GP35s, 9s or U25B's would move the train further down the
coast to LA. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 01/19/17 13:26 Re: SP Alco Century 701 just south of San Jose mid-1967 Author: ShastaDaylight Bob,
I always love your photos, and this one brings back happy memories of the SP around the Bay Area in the late 1960's. Love that C630, SD45, and an F7A (not a B unit)! Enjoy the snow up in Dunsmuir... Best wishes, ShastaDaylight Date: 01/19/17 14:11 Re: SP Alco Century 701 just south of San Jose mid-1967 Author: KMiddlebrook coach Wrote:

The cut was part of the railroad's mainline relocation off 4th Street in downtown San Jose. The new line opened at the end of 1935. I'm guessing it was named Lick in honor of the Lick Observatory on Mt Hamilton due east of this location...
