Very nice. I wonder what that big cooling coil ahead of the cab on the lead unit is about?

Outstanding!! Photo taken just East of Marquette's East Yard along the lake front. Lake Superior and Ishpeming trackage in foreground. Consist of train would indicate it is time freight No 22, but the RS1's (plus white flags) would tend to indicate it is an Extra East. Trains 21 and 22, plus RDC #500 "the Shoreliner"  on trains 1 and 2 (Ishpeming -St.Ignace round trip 6 days a week) were the only regular trains on this section of the South Shore at that time. Any more DSS&A color photos would make my year!!

Thanks again! Another South Shore rolling antiquity. One of eleven(579-589) built in 1924 at the Soo Line Shoreham shops.

Unless I am wrong that's the exhaust stack you are referring to.

I believe he's referring to the cooling coil on the side of the body just ahead of the cab.

Sans those radiator pipes.

Is the engine in the video the same one that is in the first picture?
I'm asking because because the engine in the video dies not have MU Connections, the cooling coil and the bell is just ahead of the battery box.

What a fantastic post!  Takes me back to my boyhood days going on vacation to Negaunee and Ishpeming!  Thank you ever so much.
