A while back I was approached by our hard working Kansas City Roundtable Dinner organizer & emcee and part time Santa Fe book author (when he has the time… ;^) Mr Bob Walz for a few images of Santa Fe’s track inspection car #89. He has another Santa Fe project in the works and needed some material to work with. I scanned everything I had and weeded the results down a bit. Here is a shot that didn’t make the cut because the vertical format cut out most of the depot detail. But by itself, sitting here at 4th St I think the 89 elegantly defines the rear end of the 1981 Santa Fe Director’s Special. At the other end of this celebrated yearly train/event are 3 equally elegant FP-45s led by #5943.
