SP 7327 (or 1932 or 1984) and the World's Fair Daylight
Author: BoilingMan

Digging around upstairs on this snowy Sunday I found these slides.  Interestingly they're not numbered consecutively, so there must be more in a Yellow Box somewhere.
These were taken in the early morning at LAUPT, so someone could probably nail the exact date.
The 4th photo was taken/ sent to me by Don Bain and his label says May 6, 1984  Klamath Falls, OR.  That's Doyle & I, and the location explains my cap & coat!
The 1932-1984 number boards on the 7327 are curious- I'm guessing these weren't used in revenue service!

That really was a nice paint job, great use of colors, and you could just stand there and guess within a couple
minutes how long it was going to last like that! Ah, the memories,

The 7347 didnt last too much longer because of a wreck. Thanks BN!

SR, take a look, I don't have the exact date either, but you were just to the left of me.

Ha!  it looks like you were standing on my right.  Check out my next post about the Norden turntable- I'm pretty sure you were there that day too.  You posted yours a month or two ago.
We sure used to get around!

SP EMD SD40R 7347 was SP's Olympic unit, as SP was a sponsor of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The number boards are to note the 1932 games held in LA and the 1984 games. SP 7347 did get used in revenue service with the 1932 and 1984 number boards. There is a photo on the site Espee Railfan dated in May of 84 with a slightly weathered 7347 and "1932" "1984" number boards.

The cruel twist of 7347 is it was repainted back to standard "bloody nose" in July 1985 and destroyed in a wreck in August 1985. Hardly had a chance to get the red and gray dirty.
