I always was partial to the yellow & grey scheme. The yellow numberboards on the black scheme seemed odd.

I agree the yellow numberboards looked odd.  The motive power equivalent of jaundice.

Personally, I liked the yellow numberboards with black numbers.
Some were applied to the gray units including F7A #812, and several SD40s.
