Transcisco Tours (not Transco) ran something akin to the Reno Fun Train called the Sierra '49er Express between San Jose, CA and Reno, NV for one season in 1990-91:

The 1003, originally BN 6635, then went to Wisconsin & Southern as their 1003, then to MRL as their 393.  This old thread indicates it went to Progress Rail in 2007 and has almost certainly been scrapped by now:

That paint scheme is so bad, you'd think it was painted like that for a movie!

I agree the paint scheme was too wild for my taste- but I did enjoy riding in one of the ex-UP domes and also in the open vestibule. The service was very good as well. But, as with many (bot thankfully not all) private passenger rail car operators, they couldn't make a go of it.

I rode eastbound in one of the former SP bi-levels. While the interior was attractive, the car was very rough riding. That is why I upgraded to the dome class for my return on the westbound run- well worth it.

fortunately, UP bought back their former dome cars Transisco was using and they're now part of the UP business fleet.

The young millionaire owner lost about $26,000,000 on the train in about a year's time. The cars were arrested by the SP Police for non-payment of track fees and sold to BN. They are now BNSF's dual-level business cars. Owner left me and Dick Steinheimer holding the bag for $800+ in photos. I think he went back to building heated tank cars for the Russkis and for all you know opened the POTUS campaign office in Moscow, since he obviously read the "Artiste of the Deal"!

One of the keys to business is running it on other people's money and finding a way to save your own skin if the business collapses. Trump is a master at that.

I see some people still can't get over losing and cling to fake news that everyone else has seen through and moved on from.

Indeed, "getting over" a POTUS' consultant that favors pedophilia is a hard thing to do too!

I see we've sunk to a new low in making non train related posts on TO.  I mean really?  Discussing issues of pedophilia on TO?  RB, there's nothing you can possibly respond with that can elevate the level you've taken things to. This quote shows it all.  Sad.

Indeed it is sad when railroading intersects with reality. When my greatly esteemed rail colleague and I were stiffed by an opportunist weened on the business concepts preached by your man, a defender of a heinous creep, it is very sad. I shudder to think what may become of public transit and Amtrak in the hands of such an obviously derailed mind.
