Arlen, Sure glad to learn that you're going to keep the AFT exhibit up at your truly beautiful enginehouse. I had the pleasure of seeing it at the 40th. AFT crew reunion last September and thought that it did a very effective job of describing the project,  both its purpose and its achievements.  Good job !! Thanks, Ross Rowland

It is Forbes Field Don, same place you guys spotted 1522 a couple of times. That little "Air Base spur" has seen UP 8444 (& 844) AFT 4449, Frisco 1522, MILW 261, Santa Fe 3751 and UP 3985. FT 103 & others. That is where I got to see the Freedom Train, I was living at Pauline at the time, about a mile from the display site, in the white house at the right edge of my 2nd photo..

Nothing has gone across on the Forbes spur in many years, it's paved over!
The last shot with 4449, the Pauline depot and the Barracuda, Priceless!

Very cool, thanks for posting- any more would be a treat!
A couple observations:
The guys in the red coats or red slacks are AFT Security.  The resolution isn't quite good enough for me to identify anyone.
The car with the ladder against the coupler is AFT 200- the Bunk Car where TO member SP4360 and I lived (along with 6 or 7 others) at the time. TO member Towazy joined us later that summer.
The StepVan with the AFT logo is the AV Van (audio visual).  It stored all the parts and acted as a workshop to keep all the museum displays up and running.  It might have been shared with the AFT electricians too, but they had a shop aboard Car 111 the Exit Car (also in your photos), the door with the ladder to the left of the door the public is coming out of.

Behind that end door, the inner sanctum. The patriotic mail box at the end is acually a refrigerator, well stocked most of the time.

Recent News... The last remaining AFT consist car, the Exit Car, American Freedom Train (AFT) Car No. 111 (pictured above) has been scrapped (Feb 2024).It was owned by the Pacific Railroad Preservation Association (PRPA) since 2004, when it was moved to Portland, Oregon. Todd Schannuth, American Freedom Train historian, related that this was the last remaining car that 7 million visitors went through on the train. The car was later part of the Canadian Discovery Train and also operated on the Winter Park Ski Train. Car 111 played the same role on the Discovery Train that it had on the American Freedom Train—it was the exit car for visitors and the power car for the trainset. It was sold to Union Pacific about 1981 and renumbered UP 206 for use with their business train. It was sold to a private individual in about 2001 before ownership transferred to the PRPA in 2004 and renumbered PRPX 111.
