Nostalgia & History > Where is it - NortheastDate: 02/22/17 06:18 Where is it - Northeast Author: njmidland Here is an interesting where is it - we are looking east on a railroad that still exists today (although only with a single track). What makes this image rare is the track to the left with the boxcar on it. Where are we and what is that track on the left?

Neither of those, but an Erie-controlled line had a connection about a half mile behind the photographer. So what is the > significance of the boxcar and the track it is on? Well if we are 90% there then I'll guess boxcar is interchange with the western end of the NYS&W. Steve B. No. Actally by the time this photo was taken (1910), the connection between the NYS&W and the DL&W was unused (the NYS&W had diverted coal traffic onto its own WB&E). Edited 1 time(s). No. Timetable east of Gravel Place. The track in question is NOT the Lackawanna (although the main line is). And no, it is not a trolley line. This is the interchange between the Delaware Valley Railroad and the DL&W, near N.Cortland Street in East Stroudsburg. The DV dreamed of reaching the Erie near Port Jervis, but ran out of money after getting as far as Bushkill. In the early years they reached a number of early resorts and did fairly well, but after WWI the resort business had moved further west deeper into the Poconos. The line was gone by 1933 or so. Last time I saw the structure it was used as a flower shop and the right of way was recognizable.
