Nostalgia & History > UP's Great (Challenger) Pretender w/nod to The PlattersDate: 02/22/17 10:26 UP's Great (Challenger) Pretender w/nod to The Platters Author: valmont 1. On Sherman Hill on May 15, 1993 by Alan Miller who was aboard for this historic special run and that Dick Kindig was the guest of honor.
This special, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, was to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first official RMRRC steam excursion that took place on May 17, 1953. Notice the special number boards and elephant ears added for this run. The Challenger hiding under these cosmetic changes was, of course, #3985.This trip reportedly followed the same route as the 1953 one. 2. The real #3967 Challenger, stored @ Cheyenne on 1958 by ? 3. ... and another #3967, this one @ Salt Lake City on 10/19/88 by Ryan Ballard Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/22/17 10:31 by valmont.
