Good to have hard hats on, wouldn't want to bump your head on something on that biz car.

From what I have heard about riding on the business car with the boss, you not onlly need a helmet, but a bullet proof vest.

If it was with DJR you needed a Stetson, a former SP official who rode with him told me when we were at FRA in the early '80s...

At Newton, KS, the Road Foreman of Engines, Charlie Garrison gets up on the engine wearing a white hard hat, something we'd never seen him wear before. My engineer, Steve Mallon says, "Where'd you get that hat, at a Tupperware party ". After that, we never saw him wear it again.

Yes a Stetson was definely required when riding with DJR. My father had two or three hats ready for trips. You had better be wearing it when the train pulled up.

I could have used a white helmet once while standing on the back of the business car behind a long auto rack train on the Sunset route as it the train came to a stop.....I decided to go back inside the car and and learned about slack when I planted my face on the back door window.......
