Author: MartyBernard

These are Roger Puta's.

1. SP 3029 (FM H-24-66 Trainmaster) with Train 129 at the SP depot, San Francisco, CA on August 25, 1967.

2. SP 3190 at the Lenzen Roundhouse, San Jose in July 1979.

3. SP Train 46 in San Carlos, CA in October 1982.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

That's about as good as it gets Marty.  Thanks a bunch for sharing these.  Boy that shot of the roundhouse sure brings back some memories of great times.

Great stuff, Marty. Last I heard, the 3190 was one of the GP's "landlocked" on the NWP - but I also heard the owner was trucking them out - don't know firsthand, maybe someone can fill in the info better...?

Thanks, Marty - I'm glad you and Mr. Puta saved all these now-priceless shots!

That is a very healthy consist.  Were platforms long enough to accomodate trains that size or did they double stop?

Nice stick rail maintenance in that last photo.

And I've never noticed it until now, but FM's had the smallest snowplows ever in SP history.

129 stopped at Castro-- must have needed
three or four stops there.

All trains only made one stop on a platform. At stations like Castro with short platforms, the street was utilized. Doors were opened only on cars that fit.
Remember, this was the 60s and 70s. If a train overshot the platform and people had to get on or off in the rocks, it wasn't that big of a deal.

Yeah, the lawyers had not yet discovered the "fall down and sue" practice.  Only one stop and seldom any complaints.  If you were getting off at a short platform, YOU knew what to do.

Yes, I remember passengers on the subs standing on the steps waiting to get off at Palo Alto (amid the brakeshoe smoke) - simpler  times.
