Q about GTW GP-9's
Author: Columbusrrfan

Walthers is releasing a GTW GP-9 in the blue scheme. Road numbers are in the 4400's. Their site says scheme is good for 80's through early 90's. Q is whether they made Chicago runs in to the 90's? I've found 80's pics of them going to Clyde yard on the BN. 90's pics seem to all be from MI. Were they kept closer to home later in their lives? Thanks for any info!

By the early 90s seeing unrebuilt high nose GP9s on the road was unusual but not unheard of. Most of the Chicago trains drew GP38's, 40s or SD40s. They were pretty common on yard and local trains around Lansing, Battle Creek, Flint, Pontiac etc. By the mid 90s it seemed like most were either scrapped or had made their way theough the GP9R program.

Here are some GTW 4400 pictures taken by Ken Lanovich

1.  GTW 4446 on April 23, 1996.  Location Riverdale, Illinois so I assume at the IHB

2 and 3. GTW 4448 on Nov. 26, 1983 at BRC Bedford Park.

Wow!  Talk about "Ask and ye shall receive" - not only did Englewood answer Columbusrrfan's question, but Englewood posted some fine photos, too.
