Nostalgia & History > Southern 4501 and F units - near New Orleans -- Nov 85Date: 03/19/17 05:14 Southern 4501 and F units - near New Orleans -- Nov 85 Author: gcm 4501 heads north along the levee by Lake Pontchartrain on a New Orleans-Hattiesburg excursion.
A yearly ritual in November- trips were run on Saturday and Sunday. I would ride one day and chase the other. Great Southern RR trips. Gary Date: 03/19/17 08:19 Re: Southern 4501 and F units - near New Orleans -- Nov 85 Author: Gateway97 Wow. I was stationed Keesler AFB at Biloxi MS in Nov 85. I'd like to have gotten over there to catch that.

Uncle Joe Date: 03/19/17 20:23 Re: Southern 4501 and F units - near New Orleans -- Nov 85 Author: The_Chief_Way Believe the first car may have been owned by the New Orleans Chapter, NRHS. Brook series car. Not sure where it is now.

NS didn't have a lot of confidence in 4501 at that time, thus the two FP7s. That territory is quite flat. I like the dark grey graphite smokebox much better than the bright silver that was on the 4501 during its earlier excursion career.
