Intersting shot .Wonder how it got down there ? Maybe it came down to Pine Bluff,Ar on Gateway 97 ?

I Dont know about Texas, but in the late 70s Chessie System (B&O, C&O, Blue and Chessie system paint)  GP40s were out west/SoCal on SP and ATSF, ATSF leased a bunch and SP was pool etc. I have even seen pics of them on the point East bound on the sunset route. 

PS now that I think about it have seen other pics in Texas.........

From what I remember, the SP was power short and got quite a bit of power from the B&O. They got on the Cotton Belt in St. Louis and came down the "Rabbit". SCL power came through New Orleans. BN also lended a hand with some SD40-2's, one of which was wrecked on the Rabbit.

"Rabbit" refers to SP's Houston- Shreveport main line.
