This location is just west of the Castle Crags Siding and shows a westbound pig train along the Sacramento River. It is running on a line relocation that eliminated a couple of bridges that was done a few years before this photo.was taken. There was a bridge crossing the river at this location. This area is now a forest of trees and a shot like this is now impossible.

One of your nicest yet Bob.  I'll bet those ABBBA's sounded "whiney" good too.  If Mt. Shasta weren't in the picture, the location looks like the Hirschdale area, just east of Truckee, CA.

Interesting how the river meanders to the right side of the photo and then heads straight into the new trackwork. Need to check that out sometime, the river obviously moves around quite a bit.

Absolutely spectacular!  I can almost hear those F-unit dynamic brakes whining while enjoying the smell of ponderosa pine and looking at Mt Shasta and the rushing Sacramento. Who could want more? - although the Shasta Daylight might be along shortly en route north...

I'm always irritated at the idocy of tree huggers who think you should never cut down anything.  Nature grows it back and with a vengeance.  Many photo locations of the past are gone for good and will never come back through logging.  It's sometimes amazing to look at really old photos from the late 1800's or early 1900's, see the views that were available - admittedly from heavy clear-cutting - and realize that a lot of those views are no longer visible because of reforestation.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've been having trouble with the 'predictive text' spell checker on the Google Keyboard of an android Tablet. I've been catching a lot of it, also killing off the present version of the keyboard and going to the original (soft) keyboard. this one got past me. It replaces what it thinks is an inappropriate or mis-spelled word with a word it thinks is correct. It's infuriating watching it change passwords.
