Nostalgia & History > B&O dress blues to denim

I don't have a lot of B&O in my collection, but anything in blue is my preference. Only one of these six is by me, but I find all interesting.
The "dress" image is the "Washington". Just look at the metal Baltimore & Ohio lettering in script no less, on the rear. Beautiful and classy. I

Slant noses like that just look ugly with freight pilots. As built, there were among the most beautiful diesels of the era.

I'd never say they look ugly, but they're certainly less attractive.  Even with the freight pilot, I think they still look bitchin!

B&O 1410 and 1412 are both E6A diesels. I have rarely seen any photos of them, so these are special images.

I agree with Bob; I can't remember ever seeing a B&O E6.  Thanks for posting these.

​The B&O observation car "Washington" is in the collection of the B&O R.R. Museum in Baltimore.  The car needs a lot of work and is not run able right now.  It sat outdoors for many years before it was brought inside about 5 years ago.  Like all the other B&O passenger cars, water has done much damage to the car having leaked in through the windows for many years, thus it will need steel work to repair it.  But at least it is inside right now in the old car shop at the museum.  Not like the rest of the B&O passenger cars that have been left outside to continue to rust away.

B&O lettering in script on the round end part of the observation - I don't think I've seen anything like that before.

1410 looks like it was in a fight, wonder what the other guy looks like?  Lot of crinkled steel, a bolted on plate, etc.

Lemme chip in my 2 cents here: I don't recall ever seeing any photos of slant-nosed B&O Es. How many did they have? Neat stuff, BTW...

Wayner says the "Washington" is one of two post war tavern observation cars built for the "Columbian."

B&O had 7 A-B sets of E6's plus an extra A unit that was wrecked and scrapped after the war.

They also had 6 EA A-B sets.

Mr. West, that'd be a great photo under any circumstances, but having the GG-1 dead-on in the background makes it absolutely pop.  Fantastic.

An outstanding group of photos! Thanks so much. Intersting to see "Washington" running off-line. Anyone know why?

Yes, indeed. Rode in it many times in the 1950's and early 60's on B&O's Columbian (trains 25 and 26) and it (or its sister, "Chicago"), on an NRHS excursion from Washington, D.C. To Grafton and return with BANDOB.
