Trying to confirm SoCal locations
Author: wigwag

The following are screenshots of my Super 8 video from the mid 70s. My memory is getting as fuzzy as the video.

1. Is this Chatsworth?

2. Going away shot of same train.

1 & 2 look like it could be Lancaster.
3, 4 & 5 do look like an eastbound at Beaumont Ave. in the lower reaches of San Timoteo Canyon.

I pretty much agree on both points. I have operated trains over both districts numerous times and the places sure resemble Lancaster and San imeto Canyon.

In pic 2, theres a sign on the right that says "Simi Valley" if that helps. Im not sure if Lancaster had too many Eucalyptus trees.

3 is definitely NOT Beaumont Ave. Note teardrop bell and compare it to the standard bells in pic 4.

Another agreement, the Chatsworth depot (train order signal) was closed before the SP bought any U-33C GEs.
Pics 1 & 2 wouldn't be on the LA-Indio line, again because of the time and the train order signal, as the line was all CTC for years before this picture could have been taken.

So, that leaves LA-Bakersfield which was train orders from LA to Mojave...

The orange groves, and the crossing all suggest the West end of the San Timoteo Canyon for the last pics.  With the GP35s and the U50 in main line service, this says LA to Indio, and dates the picture to the mid to late 60s.

ok, I do believe 1&2 are at Santa Susanna, when the depot was at it's old location on Tapo and Los Angeles..

(Or could be San Fernando)...

I vote for Santa Susanna for the first two also, based on the wide track centers, the trees, and the curve in the distance in the first photo, that is where the line crosses Los Angeles Ave.

I would think the sign that says Simi Valley is probably a dead giveaway.  So Santa Susanna
