Nostalgia & History > Missing Montana......

It has been almost ten years since I've last visited Big Sky Country, in October 2007 for the annual AltaMont weekend.  One of the last years (the last year?) the event was hosted at the Izaak Walton Inn.  Recently I was moving/backing up my collection of digital images and spent some time going through the photos I took that fall.  Feeling nostalgic, I pulled a few images to share.  Enjoy.

1. The East Glacier station platform provided the vantage point of this westbound freight preparing to mount an assault on Marias Pass.

2. An eastbound empty grain train leaves the mountains behind at Spotted Robe.

3. More empty hoppers head east around the big curve at Browning.

4. A westbound grain train passing under the monument at Camp Disappointment.

5. Even more grain heading west past the elevator at Meriwether.

6. We ended the trip with quick run down to Missoula and the MRL, catching this local descending Evaro Hill towards town.

That's a super series you posted Mike.  Thanks for sharing these.  I think the first shot is the most dynamic because of the heat waves.  Overall, a very colorful series!

Excellent stuff! I worked out of Missoula 1987 ~ 1991 so your well deserved IOTD shot on Evaro sure brings back some memories...
