Post Your Alco Switcher Pics!
Author: tp117

I just bought an S1 for a shortline, but I don't know which one yet, so I was hoping that people could post pics of S1, S2s, anything like that to help me. Right now its PRR, but its not going to stay that way.

Thanks! These are very interesting. The S1 is by P2K, and came with add on details, and I put that extra grill on four posts over the radiator on the rear because I thought it was a very interesting modification. I also didn't think many would have it, but the first one of these and the third one both do. I'm looking for other interesting modifications and details and these there phots have actually helped more than 10 years of Extra 2200 South issue that I just went through.

Model Railroading (ING not ER) has been running a series of issues on the Alco S switcher family. If you can find a set of those for the last couple of years you should be able to find what you want.

Another view of Quincy's No. 4, at rest next to the 2nd QRR's enginehouse, the tracks just don't go there anymore - 7 July 1995.

Now, I know someone needs to post a photo of this unit in Silver and blue, and a WP photo would be just great!

What a weird paint scheme the chicken farm engine has. Thanks again for all the pics!

I forgot where I took this...it would appear to be the same loco as the one 3rdswitch photographed...I thought it was in Kingsburg...or was it Selma,Ca...both relatively close to one another...May of 1982

Both Foster Farms Alco photos were taken in Livingston, California. I believe the S-6 is still used there, while the S-4 went to a museum (Portola?). Foster Farms had S-6 units at Turlock and Burrel as well, though both are now retired/derelict. The one at Burrell is slated to go to a museum (GGRM?) and is significant in that it was the last SP Alco to operate on home rails. It was the SP 1218, while the one at Turlock was the 1213. As for the Livingston unit, I can't recall what SP number it carried.

No photos to share, however I had the pleasure of standing next to an Alco S6 on the Fillmore and Western last Sunday (Father's day) listening to that unique Alco Chugga-Chugga-Chugga-Chugga. What a fine way to spend the time!

(actually I do have pics but they are still in the camera)
