Heres the eastbound City of San Francisco rolling through Richmond in 1961. I shot this from the Santa Fe overcrossing. I guess there have been a few changes since then.

What a great shot.

Changes? Well, So. 23rd runs thru an underpass. The Santa Fe bridge is long gone. BART's el is next to the ex-SP tracks. "Auto Row" on 23rd moved to Hilltop Mall. Oh yeah, the PA's and the "City" are gone too.

Well for one back on the RR in '61 you probably didn't have to worry about "shots fired again at us" coming from the various freight and passenger crews rolling through Richmond. But still, that '61 shot still has the basic look today minus the ATSF bridge, the addition of BART and the underpass. I'll give $50 bucks to someone who can obtain this very same shot from this exact same angle today...

Better make a higher offer than that. Not only is the Santa Fe bridge gone, but the approach fill is gone too. I may need to rent a truck with a cherry picker bucket to get my $50!

LOL, and I'd pay you the 50 bucks just to see you up there in air in that cherry picker in the heart of Richmond! But if I were you I'd bring a bullet proof vest and make sure that cherry picker bucket you rent out is teflon coated!
