Yreka Western 19

Heres Yreka Western #19 as part of the consist of SP's Montague Local back in 1994. The train is crossing a bridge at Gazelle on its way to Mt Shasta for some excursion runs on the McCloud. This scene will never again be repeated.

The #19 flew solo on those trips, unless you count that the trip to Burney and return was powered all the way down and all the way back by SD38-2 #39, which was tacked on at the rear of the train...the only time it worked on Saturday was during photo runbys. Sunday, however, saw the #19 take a fire car and the passenger consist by itself as far as Hambone, where a Lookout job behind the #39 caught up with the #19...the passenger consist was added to the rear of the freight while the #19 returned light to McCloud and the fire car stayed in the Hambone siding.

In 1994 the #25 was still owned by the Great Western Railroad Museum...the McCloud did not get it back until very late in 1995 and it did not return to operation until Labor Day 1997.
