Nostalgia & History > Heading for the Dumbarton BridgeDate: 12/22/04 17:11 Heading for the Dumbarton Bridge Author: photobob In a much simpler time, in this case the early 60's, an occasional freight train ride was in order. A trip down to Bayshore around noon to find a nice gondola for a ride on the TBX to Oakland. I had a photo permit to be on SP property so we got around that little problem and the crews didnt mind as long as we were carful. After a long trip around the bay with a little switching here and there we arrived at Oakland. Then a walk up town to the Greyhound depot and a 50cent ticket back to the big city. Heres the TBX passing Ravenswood with the Dumbarton Bridge peeking over the sign. Nowadays just walking the steets to the Greyhound depot would be more dangerous then the train ride.
