Early morning arrival at Martinez 1961

Train 11 the "Cascade" arrives from Portland right on the advertised. PA 6029 leads a perfect ABBA setup. Passengers await the morning rush of SP passenger trains for all points of the compass. In true SP style the engineer is giving a wave to some kid holding a camera on the platform. As if the wave wasnt enough he gave me a tour of the cab while mail and baggage were unloaded. Man I really miss those days.

Yessir, Bob. Those were good days. I have other Martinez railfan memories of that time period - riding with crazy Harold in his 1954 Ford as we chased trains. Sometimes Harold even drove on paved highways. - Tony J.
