Nostalgia & History > a couple at DevonDate: 06/24/05 06:17 a couple at Devon Author: 3rdswitch In October '90, the northbound "Coast Starlight" was passing the "magnetic flagman" at the road crossing at Devon, CA, on SP's Coast Line, a few miles south of Guadalupe. Is this wig wag still operational?
JB Date: 06/24/05 06:23 Re: a couple at Devon Author: 3rdswitch And, also in Oct '90, SP's northbound LABA about to enter the Devon Block at the east end of Devon siding. This is the second siding south of Guadalupe. During this period of time, there were basically two "regular" trains each direction on the Coast route, an intermodal each direction between LA and Oakland and a manifest each way. The intermodal, LABA, usually left LA just ahead of, or just behind Amtrak's Coast Starlight, making it a daylight train westbound up the coast. Here, it is running an hour or so ahead of Amtrak.
