Purdy Metals, Mojave
Author: TonyJ

Recently our NRHS chapter was donated some large 2-3/4 x 2-3/4 color slides, 8mm movies, negatives and some prints from the estate of the late Lee Carlson. SPNudge presented the Carlson collection to me to sort, review and save. I will now begin post some of the large format color slides.

This first series I've selected were taken at Purdy Metal's scrapyard facility in Mojave. There are no dates on the slides but I would guess the late 1970s. - Tony J.

Tony,
Thanks for taking the time to posting these interesting shots. I really like the Cotton Belt "Stac-Pac" in the last one.

Back in the 70's or 80's the LA Times had an article about the "Choo-Choo Cemetery" giving a look at the Purdy facility. I think it was actually closer to Rosamond than Mojave, but the latter town is much more widely known among ferroequinologists. I was told that one factor in Purdy selecting this location was that it was as close as one could get to Los Angeles and still be in Kern County (looser environmental regs).
