CN derailment on Northern line to Prince Rupert
Author: spdaylight

A CN unit coal train derailed Sunday westbound to Prince Rupert 50 kilometers south of McBride, B.C. on CN's northern mainline from Prince George to Prince Rupert. CN Rail officials are hoping to re-open the line this morning. A total of 33 coal cars left the track around 10:45 PM on Sunday night. There were no injuries and no environmental issues. CN crews remain on scene and the incident is under investigation.

McBride is east of Prince George. What coal is running through there. Also did you mean east of west of McBride.

Coal coming from the Edson coal branch or Obed could easily be shipped down the Trunk to Rupert instead of Vancvouver

Delays were minimal, a lot of tonnage was detoured over the former BC Rail line.
