Dashing through the Snow
Author: hoggerdoug

Feb 4, 2008, somewhere on the BC Rail Prince George Sub, I think it was between Dunkly and Greening. Ugly night on the rail.

Short but sweet! Would love to have passed a signal.

BC Rail was all "dark territory", couple of videos here of approaching switches at Colebank siding. There were a few signals at various locations governing some power and spring switches.

First one is southbound approaching the north switch at Colebank @ 40 mph.

Second is approaching the south switch Colebank.

Third is going northbound approaching the mill at Dunkly.

Enjoy, Doug

There is an engineer in Northern Ontario who posts videos on YouTube under the handle "Hogger01" He has many snow videos with some set to music. Even has some chasing moose. Just log on to YouTube and search "Hogger01"

Well, I could post a bunch more, that is if the Webmaster would allow me to, think I've used up my time for the month. Doug

Really neat videos--thanks much for posting!

It almost seems a little creepy to be sneaking through the night in a snowstorm like that. In some cases you can't see the track at all, and forward visibility is very limited. That must feel weird to be moving forward in those conditions.

I bet that could get hypnotic after a short time. I know it does in a car. Crew must have slept well after that experience.

Some great videos. From someone who has never ridden the rails this way it is great to see a view from the inside out. It must be quite tough on the nerves though: with that poor visibility and not having the ability to "swerve" if you discover a big nasty.

Thanks for the post,

Is that the one which has the Cow Moose that meets an ugly
end because he did not slow down????? granted there was not
an escapeway for the moose like many of the roads cut out with dozers.

I was very surprised at the visibility issue during the snow storm. I had thought that there would be much more distance. Seems like no reaction time at all.
