VIA is Adding Some Trains
Author: DrawingroomA

After three rounds of train discontinuances (January, July and October) VIA is adding some services on 10 Dec. There is a new weekday train between Ottawa and Toronto (#43 @ 07:30) and a return from Toronto (#644 @ 14:25.) Trains 68 and 69 between Toronto and Montreal, which were cut in January, are re-instated on Fridays and Sundays, albeit without as many stops as before. They won't break any speed records, taking almost five hours. There is also an additional weekday round-trip between Montreal and Quebec City. As promised many months ago, one Quebec-Montreal train is extended to run through to and from Ottawa, but this is not an extra train as it replaces an existing Montreal-Ottawa round trip.

VIA has just come out with a Flash sale, valid only for three days. It is the usual 50% off and includes sleepers on the Ocean and Canadian. A one-way fare from Toronto to Vancouver in a cabin is $771.50 ($871.80 with sales tax.)

The seem no longer interested in their corridor business west of Toronto.

VIA is finally focusing on its key corridors, where passenger rail has a strong presence and can grow even more.

Within the past 12 months, Via's "focus on its key corridors" actually caused a significant reduction of services at convenient times. What they are doing now tends to restore some of what they cut.
