Canadian Pacific salutes fallen soldiers On November 11, at 11 a.m. local time, all Canadian Pacific trains will safely halt across its 14,700-mile network, observe two minutes of respect in silence, then sound a long train whistle in tribute to Remembrance Day and Veteran’s Day. A special service will also be held at CP's headquarters in Calgary. more at the link above ... I had some concerns that EHH might halt this practice. I am glad he didn't. He goes in and does what he feels from experience what needs to be done to get a railway back to running efficiently. Yes ,there will be pain to to make CP a competitive major North American railway. However don't blame Harrison for doing the job. If you want to blame someone ,blame the former management team which allowed Canadian Pacific to fall behind so badly.

As I said, I had some concerns he MIGHT cancel ... and again, I'm glad he didn't. I did not make any other comment about Mr Hunter. Will MacKenzie Dundas, ON Date: 11/11/12 06:23 Re: CP to continue tradition of honouring vets Author: Lackawanna484 CP has a storied history, inextricably linked to the growth of Canada. From the Riel insurrection to the west coal coal exports and into the future.

There may have been talk in Parliament of the need to be able to move troops but that was accomplished via the Northen Pacific to Minneapolis and then going north. I would say the Riel Rebellion is more in the roots of the establishment of the NWMP. The main reason for the creation of the CPR was to bring British Columbia into Confederation and, equally, to push back on the concept of Manifest Destiny. Although it's been a while, I believe CPR transported the troops which put down the second Riel Rebellion. That enabled Van Horne to gain funds for the final improvements. |
