Canadian Railroads > German railway snow clearersDate: 11/12/12 13:35 German railway snow clearers Author: leonz Greetings to my Canadian board member friends
from 1,140 feet above mean sea level from my corner of the soon to be frozen Eastern Wilderness of New York State-I hope it freezes anyway. I thought you might enjoy seeing a couple of photos of a self propelled German manufactured snow clearer used by the Duetchbahn railway folks. I believe the first two photos are the same model which is the Beilhack HB1600 model snow clearer which is the largest self propelled snow clearer that they build. The twin snow removal discs and impellers can extend laterally to a total width with the scraping plows extended being 186.6 inches=15.56 feet=4.74 meters wide for both the HB1200 and 1600 models and it can remove snow pack that is higher than the operators cabin using the four mounted snow and ice breaking propellers to knock it down and break it up before it is pulled into the snow removal discs and then discharged out of the twin spouts left, right, or center forward if needed. The third image is of the Conrail owned HB1200 model before the Conrail massacre. I have an image on the western board showing an HB 80 rack drive model clearing the right of way on the Wendelstienbahn rack railway in Germany. I hope I do not start a range war here with my fellow canadian board members as has happened recently on the western board. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I do. I have read a great deal about Rodgers Pass and the history of the Leslie/Cooke and Jull rotary snow plows. I am looking for more information-books etc., written about the William Bros Rotary snow plow and its history. Edited 5 time(s). Last edit at 11/13/12 10:37 by leonz. Larry Dodgion Wilsonville, OR Date: 11/12/12 17:01 Re: German railway snow clearers Author: leonz I have uploaded a picture of the SB900 unit owned
by the Italian State Railways clearing and widening one of their rights of way. The first picture shows the SB900 clearing the right of way on the first pass along one point of the Brenner Pass near a train station. The second image shows the same unit clearing and widening the route with the snow clearing dscs extended laterally to the full width. The third image shows the HB900 turning in its own length to travel in the opposite direction on the same track. Most of the Brenner Pass is real avalanche country and they have to wait till daylight to be able to clear heavy snows at times. The image I uploaded earlier shows the german owned unit working in deep snow just like the image I uploaded showing the former Conrail owned SB1200 clearing an avalanche on the former Lockhaven Division The other image I uploaded of a smaller unit removing deep snows along a rack railway in Germany is located at the Beilhack snow clearers thread on the western board dated 11/09/12 Edited 5 time(s).
