Copetown Goings-On
Author: TheCurator

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon not a lot was happening this Easter weekend, but myself and a few other 'fans spent a few hours at the former station location.

1)Lights glowing in the bright sunshine a distant freight closes in.

2)SD75i #5776 with IC #1038 trailing leads it's e/b mixed freight through Copetown.

3)David J. Joseph Co. open hopper #1401.

Not one to only photograph power, a few cars I haven't often seen in this area:

4) Internation Bridge & Terminal Company plug-door boxcar.

5) Hmm, CRLE. Michigan Air-Line Railway Company or Utah Central Railway Company?

6) A well-worn SOO Line high-end(?) gondola.

7) For modellers looking to weather a hopper car.

8) "My scanner reported westbound Train #... with F40ph #... on the south track at ....hrs. Where the heck is it?"

9) "Ahh, there she is!"

Why is there a depressed-centre flat at the feed mill? Bad order?

The depressed center flat had a hydro transformer on it. It was unloaded and carted away by heavy-haul truck about one month ago.

I remember Copetown well as a kid . This is where the assist engines out of Bay View would uncouple and cross over to the house track. Then the usual 2-8-2 crew would get orders and wait for a break in traffic before running backwards to Bay View. A lot of fun.

Late 50's or early 60's there was a nasty wreck at the mill siding. Can't recall all the details, a road switcher was working the mill and got tail ended by a west bound freight. Sadly the conductor was killed. Doug
