Canadian Railroads > CP F7B "Slugs" #1018 & 1019 ConfigurationDate: 04/16/14 08:52 CP F7B "Slugs" #1018 & 1019 Configuration Author: krm152 CP F7Bs 1018 and 1019 are sometimes described as slugs. Google satellite photos of the units at NRE Silvis Photos of units show they each have 3 roof fans, 2 exhaust stacks, and 2 F3 style dynamic brake grids. Given this, I would tend to believe these units were fully functional units with prime movers.
Can anyone explain exactly how these units were configured? Thanks for your help. ALLEN Date: 04/16/14 10:59 Re: CP F7B "Slugs" #1018 & 1019 Configuration Author: BN_FAN CP referred to them as 'hump boosters' and gave them internal RR class HB-15. Educated guess that 15 = 1500 HP, same as an F7B would be. In this photo the fuel fill looks well used, and the paint is scorched on the winterization hatch beside the rear stack. I'd say they were functional powered units, and not slugs as many sources call them.

I can't remember which number was converted although I'd guess the 1019 since it was the only one that got repainted into the "Candy Apple Red" along with its GP9u mates. I can remember the working locomotive unit putting on quite a show mated with 2 GP9u's on the Aylth (Calgary) hump in the mid 1990's. Here's a really crappy scan of the 1019 shortly after being repainted, circa 1998.

"If the original poster saw db on the units at NRE, obviously they were re-installed there since both lost it when they were upgraded and converted to hump service. Note the two have different grills." -Trevor Date: 04/17/14 23:00 Re: CP F7B "Slugs" #1018 & 1019 Configuration Author: krm152 Thanks for the great responses and photos.
