Is this still going to be a Budd car operation? I would like to ride this train someday.

Will still be all Budds including very rare all baggage RDC 4's.

"VIA Rail's undertaking of operations will result in the creation of six new permanent positions for Locomotive Engineers and onboard Service Managers." Is this a net gain? What of the current CP crew members?

That probably means no more rides up front for railfans, no passengers in the baggage area and strict enforcement of baggage rules and prices.

E.g. this would not be permitted as the ATV fuel tank would need to be drained.

Has it been true that while there was no food service at all officially, the conductor had an urn from which could buy a cup ?

First at CN, and now at CP, Hunter Harrison has ended the practice of CP supplying operating crews to other corporations.

The Sudbury-White River RDC was the last Via train staffed by CP crews. Recently, CP crews ceased operating West Coast Express commuter trains out of Vancouver and I understand AMT commuter trains out of Montreal are to be staffed by AMT crews shortly.

On CN, operating employees hired after a certain date are not eligible to operate non-CN trains like the "Rocky Mountaineer".

"On Board Service Managers" are management positions.

That means if the Vermonter get extended to Montreal, there is no chance CN crews can insist on operating it north of St Albans as before.
