BNSF trains using old B.C. Electric Railway line
Author: Marcus

The diversion of BNSF empty coal trains from Roberts Bank coal terminal to Sumas, Washington,
uses some track completed as the British Columbia Electric Railway (BCER) in 1910,
but now owned and operated by the Southern Railway of British Columbia (SRY).
BCER was an electric railway known for its extensive Street Car and Interurban passenger service.

1 & 2. Though no longer electrified, the B.C. Electric Railway heritage of the SRY Fraser Valley Subdivision is still evident.
The Langley Substation is now a private residence.

3 & 4. The B.C. Electric Railway origin is also apparent in the undulating track profile,
steep grades, and parallel power transmission lines still in use today.

5. Neighbours to the SRY Fraser Valley Sub have never seen trains this long in their backyard,
and are on hand to wave at the unmanned rear DPU locomotive.

6. Mt. Lehman is a tiny community established in 1864 and now part of Abbotsford, B.C.
Many years ago, B.C. Electric Railway ran “Saturday Specials for Mount Lehman”,
giving Vancouver city residents an opportunity to visit this rural area.

Nice catch.... I have not struck out a few times trying to get some photos on this line... maybe in spetember!

And yes it is a nice line to go for a ride-along... been of a few myself, when they were legally allowed.
