Something New at Ottertail Creek

Ottertail Creek, while not as popular as Mornat's Curve is still a pretty good spot. (Albeit the power poles are a bit of distraction.) Here a rebuild of the GP variety heads at worktrain across the bridge at Ottertail Creek. September 15, 2014

Personally, I really like Ottertail curve with those bridge abutments and it has a nice backdrop as well.

Great shot.

That area is a neat part of the country.
Excellent photos!
A year ago I was passing by when the eastbound RMR crossed the bridge.

A great spot.

It was a favourite spot of mine for shooting VIA as well.

Are you allowed to go out there and "prune the pines"? In the first shot, I suspect there is a pine tree right on the left edge, off picture. I suspect it is too big for pruning but maybe someone needs to catch a bag load of Pine Beetles and spread them along the right of way. I doubt it will bring back VIA though.

LOL, I don't know about the pine beetles, but if you ring the tree (cut a ring around the base that goes in just past the bark......achieved easiest with a chain saw........the tree will die on it's own, and maybe they'll cut it down........?

The noise of a Chainsaw in the National Park is a risk. There is a NP work and maintenance depot about 2-3 kms toward Field and with their activities being near they might hear the rev of a Chainsaw. You can ring bark a tree with a handsaw and maybe even a battery powered sabre saw. However, that is a lot of work going from tree to tree ... Pine beetles will do the work for you.

True, but they just don't know when to stop, and pretty soon, there's no nice background for a decent picture.
