CN Clair SK DOT-111 same as Lac Megantic's
Author: Lackawanna484

The Globe & Mail recently had an article about the derailment and oil fire on CN at Clair SK. The older cars are being gradually phased out, but CN says "we have no choice but to accept them".

The cars were described as the same type as found in the Lac Megantic explosion and fire.

Just confirms that the earlier announced policy of refusing the older 111 cars at the border was not workable and would never be actually implemented. Canadian trains are full of the older cars and will be for years to come.

Trenergy in St Catharines Ontario is pumping 2-3 tank car shells a day out of their plant, as a subcontractor for National Steel car in Hamilton.
Steel car is finishing them off and I would guess this will go on for years!

Likely true.

Competitors Greenbrier and Trinity have multi-year back logs for tank cars, grain hoppers, etc.
