Canadian Railroads > Steam in Canada...Date: 10/29/14 07:55 Steam in Canada... Author: Keystone1 Now that I have your attention (thank you), I rarely come over to this thread on T.O. Is there ANY steam at all running in Canada, especially in Quebec or Ontario. Back in the '70's and '80's, I frequently went north to see 6167, 6218,1201, 6153, 137 1057, 136 and later on, 2816. What is going on today? Anything? Any hope for the future? I was always hoping for a CP Selkirk or CN Hudson, (Maybe the one in St. Thomas.) Does anyone have any thoughts? Even with the 6213 at John's St. roundhouse and the Upper Canada Railway Society?

Author: Finderskeepers Every once in a while there is talk of a restoration of CN 6213 in Toronto, but with no access to live trackage it wouldn't be much of a run. It's too bad that access from the roundhouse to the main was severed and built over, as they have several operable locos.

And if its overhaul is completed by next spring, ex-CN class M-3-d 2-8-0 No. 2141 at http://www.kamrail.com/. Date: 10/30/14 08:07 Re: Steam in Canada... Author: Keystone1 Thanks for the current list guys. Have any of you heard the often repeated rumor that the CP was looking at the 4-8-4 out west as back up for the 2816? BTW, what is happening with the 2816. I don't hear a word about her anymore.

IPSCO was/is an oilfield pipe manufacturer who scrapped many steam locomotives for CP. They saved one of the two CP 4-8-4's for decades. Date: 10/30/14 12:13 Re: Steam in Canada... Author: TheCurator Here's a shot of South Simcoe's 4-4-0, taken about 11 years ago.
From the pics I took back in 2008 it looks like 6218 may be a good candidate for restoration, in spite of being exposed to the elements for so long. I posted these photos previously and some here indicated the smokebox was in relatively good condition (that photo was taken through a small hole in the door). Date: 10/30/14 12:16 Re: Steam in Canada... Author: TheCurator You can see the small hole just to the right of the headlight above the hinge, and a larger hole at the bottom just above the handrail.
Date: 10/30/14 12:26 Re: Steam in Canada... Author: Keystone1 Who bought the CP 4-8-4 out west? For what purpose, (dare I hope, to run)?

That's a great heads on picture of the 6218. The lantern is a great touch. Date: 10/31/14 05:01 Re: Steam in Canada... Author: tsokolan Keystone1 Wrote:

He's been buying up equipment for the last year or so in the hopes of starting a museum "somewhere". No word on when/how the 4-8-4 at IPSCO will be moved. -Trevor Date: 10/31/14 05:04 Re: Steam in Canada... Author: tsokolan Alberta Steam:
