Canadian Railroads > MLW Monday - RS-23 at workDate: 11/24/14 16:31 MLW Monday - RS-23 at work Author: Ray_Murphy Transfers of passenger, business and freight cars between the CPR's Glen yard (Westmount) and the main Montreal-area yard (St-Luc) were generally handled by switchers. On 26 July 1976, RS-23 8026 (Picture 1) brought in a number of 40' boxcars from St-Luc.
My guess is that these were loads of paper destined for the Imperial Tobacco factory in St-Henri, which was accessed by a switchback spur off the CPR tracks about half-way between Westmount and Windsor Station downtown. After arriving in Westmount, the first task for the short freight was to spot the van on one of the empty yard tracks (Pictures 2, 3). It then placed the boxcars on one of the longer tracks in the yard (pictures 4, 5). Ray Date: 11/24/14 16:34 Re: MLW Monday - RS-23 at work Author: Ray_Murphy Pictures 4, 5...
In Picture #4, note the amenity the yard workers have made for themselves next to the inbound platform shelter. Ray |
