CP SD90s Return to Service
Author: chatnoir

"We're going to convert those locomotives. Put some updated packages on them. Electrical. And we're going to get an SD90 that's a pretty good locomotive...." A quote attributed to Eugene during a Credit Suisse Transportation Conference in New York last week.

If this pans out, it will bring some needed relief from the GE paradigm. The attached photos were taken in Toronto on the North Toronto Sub before the troubles began - unless of course the troubles began from the get-go.

1. Oct 29, 1999 - A pair and an older brother are westbound at Yonge Street.

2. June 9, 2000 - On a humid day in June, two more growl past me through Rosedale (rhymes with mansions and old money), eastbound to Toronto Yard.

3. Dec 24, 2000 - Hustling home on Christmas Eve before Santa arrives.

Laggan Sub around Mile 58

9109 and 9112 eastbound

File said 2000 but I think it's earlier than that.

Unless I'm wrong, these are not SD-90's. They have the 710 engine, and 4300 hp.

It's an SD90MAC. Builders plate should say SD90MAC. They came with 4300hp 16-710s with the aim of replacing them with the 6000hp 16-265H. coach what would it be if it's not an SD90?

That isn't what EMD called them, it is what the UP called them.

They're not SD-90's. Those have the "H" engine. Call it an SD-43, but it's not an SD-90.

SD-90 doesn't exist either. Call it what EMD calls it, a SD90MAC. SD90MAC-H has the H engine.

I do believe the proper model designation is P.O.S., every SD90 I've had is junk.
