Laggan Sub Dec 14
Author: KickingHorse

So for me a rare Sunday with no minor hockey game to do and a it's a gorgeous sunny day. Opportunities to shoot trains, especially westbounds, are limited by the short days and very low sun angle at this time of year as well as the track orientation (closer to N-S instead of W-E around Canmore). I'm out and about and see a westbound potash train (675) passing through Canmore. One of the few spots around where the sun is good and accessibility is easy is Banff, so off I go.

Arriving at Banff Station I see there is an old SD40-2 sitting in a storage track just west of the snowplow that's there as well.

And then 675 highballs through with CP-8718 and CP-9638 up front.

Mid-train remotes are CP-8869 and UP-3744

On the tail is CP-8720

On the scanner at 65.6: -7 degrees C and 710 axles.

Nice shots!

I believe 5726 is specially modified for plow service!

I was going to ask about the air filters on the side but that makes sense. Thanks Mike!

Great shots, I took some night photos of the SD40-2 and the MOW equipment Saturday Dec 13 evening when the Holiday train came to Banff. The CPR police were very friendly and allowed me the chance to wonder around. The SD40-2 was idling, and you could see sparks coming out of her exhaust into the clear evening sky.....
