MLW Monday with train #988
Author: arwye

C424's, 4248-4223 and 4232 roll a late train #988 through Nisku Alberta on a fine summer's morning in early July, 1972. Train 988 was usually out of Edmonton, bound for Red Deer and Calgary by 6AM, with older GMD power on the point. In the late 1960's and early 70's it was unusual, but not rare to find 2nd generation diesels north of Red Deer. I can't remember if I was working mid-night or afternoon shifts on this date, but it was grab the camera and head about ten miles south for this broad curve where this all MLW consist could be displayed.

Nisku is another story. Today this scene is not recognizable. Adjacent to the poorly located Edmonton International Airport (on top of what was the richest top soil and farm land in Alberta), many square miles of this area is now paved over and the site of a large industrial park. As the Yukon Yeti says, "ETTS".
