Less power for the oil trains?
Author: march_hare

Noted two oil trains arriving at Albany this morning with only one unit up front, and one DPU. Hadn't seen that before, all the oil and boozeliners have been at least two units up front, and maybe a D{U maybe not. Is this a new standard?

The one and one arrangement has been very common. I'm surprised you've seen your first examples only recently.

I haven't seen any one plus one oil trains down here on Conrail Shared Assets in NJ. I wonder if NS (the other owner of Shared Assets) isn't on board?

NS, until recently, ran its 66z oil trains with two up front and two in DPU.

I've seen several CP 608's through Indiana the past few weeks with this 1-0-1 configuration.
