TSB Report Oct. 2013 Gainford AB CN Derailment & Fire

The TSB investigation determined that the train derailed when one or more rail breaks occurred in the high rail as the train travelled through the curve in the Gainford siding. Numerous defects were found along the length of the high rail in the curve.

I thought it was quite hilarious in the news report "CN changed the rail"

Interesting....my wife and I were on our way to Edmonton to visit our daughter and passed through there in the evening--roughly 18 hours after the accident. All the traffic was being routed off on a 30 km detour north of the derailment site...
