CP's "Red Barns"
Author: v1perfan

Hi all,

Does anyone know if CP is still actively running their "red barn" locomotives? I haven't seen them around in quite a while.

I believe only two are still in service.

These are the newest SD40-2's on the continent.  Why the early demise compared to their older sisters?  I know they were plagued with bugs when new, but...

The crews hate them for the poor visibility to the rear and for crew members on the front steps.

1988/89 is not new.  The newest ordered units, of any model, have always been the victim of being put to pasture with the rest of the fleet.

CR scrapped C636s alongside RS11s, C424s and the rest of the Alco fleet for example

Yes, but that is beacause C636's were garbage AND, CR was trying to purge all the minority builders from their roster.  The "barns" may not be well loved by the crews, but if they have been maintained at all, they should pull trains just fine, and it's not like CP doesn't have a lot of other EMD power.
